Ingredients
Food-grade organic cacao butter, pressed from rare Criollo cacao
Coracao Organic Cacao Butter is the same fine-cacao base we use to make our own chocolate bars, sold in raw pressed form so you can build the recipe yourself. Pure, single-ingredient, USDA Organic and Fair-Trade certified. The cacao variety is Criollo, which makes up less than 5% of the world's cacao supply and is prized for its delicate, fruit-forward flavor profile.
Why bakers, chocolatiers, and home cooks reach for raw cocoa butter
Most "cocoa butter" on grocery shelves is deodorized, which strips the natural chocolate aroma to make a neutral fat. That is fine for skincare. It is the wrong choice for chocolate. Our cacao butter is unrefined and raw, so when you melt it into ganache, white chocolate, magic shell, or a keto fat bomb, you taste actual cacao. If you have been disappointed by store-bought "cocoa butter wafers" that smell like nothing, this is the upgrade.

Cacao butter FAQ
What is cocoa butter and what is cacao butter, are they the same?
Yes. "Cocoa butter" and "cacao butter" are the same edible fat pressed from cacao beans. The two spellings are interchangeable. We use the spelling "cacao butter" because we work with raw, unrefined cacao throughout the line, but customers searching for "cocoa butter" land in the right place.
Is cocoa butter vegan and dairy-free?
Yes. Despite the word "butter," cocoa butter is 100% plant-based. It is the natural fat in the cacao bean and contains zero dairy. Our cacao butter is also processed in a dedicated dairy-free, soy-free, gluten-free facility.
What does food-grade cocoa butter mean?
"Food-grade" means the cocoa butter is intended for eating, not just topical skincare use. Some cocoa butter on the market is sold as cosmetic grade and is not held to food-safety standards. Coracao cacao butter is food-grade, USDA Organic, and packaged in a facility that processes only food ingredients.
How do I store cocoa butter for cooking?
Cool, dark, dry. Shelf life is approximately 2 years unopened at room temperature. Once opened, store in an airtight container. Cacao butter does not require refrigeration and refrigerating it can cause condensation that affects melting behavior next time you use it.
Can I use Coracao cacao butter on my skin?
You can, but you do not need to. Food-grade is a higher standard than cosmetic-grade so it is safe topically. That said, our pricing reflects food-grade quality. If your goal is body butter, a dedicated cosmetic-grade product will be cheaper per ounce.

What is Cacao Butter?
Cacao butter is the pure, creamy fat extracted from cacao beans. During the chocolate-making process, cacao beans are fermented, dried, roasted, and cold-pressed to separate the butter from the solids. We want to be transparent with you about recent price changes. Severe weather conditions in major cacao-growing regions have caused a global shortage, leading to unprecedented price increases - in many cases, tripling or quadrupling. While we source our Fair Trade and Organic cacao from South America, these global market changes affect prices everywhere.
Here's what matters:
- We're only passing on some of these increased costs
- We've actually reduced our margins to absorb as much as possible
- We'll adjust prices back down when the market stabilizes
- We remain committed to fair trade practices and supporting our farming partners while keeping our chocolate as accessible as possible. Thank you for understanding and continuing to support ethical, sustainable chocolate.
Recent independent testing confirms that our products meet the strictest heavy metals standards. Here's what you should know:
Lead and cadmium occur naturally in soil where cacao grows. While our levels are well below FDA safety thresholds, we choose to include California's Prop 65 warning on our products. Why? As a small employee-owned business, we believe in complete transparency over costly litigation.
Our commitment to clean chocolate means rigorous testing and careful sourcing. Want to see our test results? Email us at orders@coracaoconfections.com.
Thank you for choosing chocolate that prioritizes both your health and the planet's wellbeing.
Absolutely! Our cacao butter is both certified organic and fair-trade, sourced from regenerative farms in South America. We work directly with small-scale farmers who use sustainable farming practices, ensuring both environmental stewardship and fair compensation for their communities.
Cacao butter is rich in healthy fats and antioxidants that support overall wellness:
- Contains beneficial compounds like theobromine and polyphenols
- Rich in omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids
- Natural source of magnesium and vitamin E
- Supports heart health and balanced cholesterol levels
- Offers anti-inflammatory properties
Cacao butter is incredibly versatile! Use it to:
- Make homemade chocolate and treats
- Create natural body care products
- Add richness to smoothies and hot drinks
- Replace other fats in baking
- Craft raw desserts and energy balls
Store your cacao butter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. While it doesn't require refrigeration, keeping it in an airtight container will help preserve its fresh aroma and nutrients. When properly stored, cacao butter can last up to 2-3 years.
Our cacao butter is minimally processed at low temperatures to preserve its natural benefits and enzymes. While the beans undergo gentle roasting to develop flavor, the butter extraction process maintains the integrity of the beneficial compounds.
Those white spots or streaks are completely natural! This is called "bloom" and occurs when the fats in cacao butter slightly separate due to temperature changes. It doesn't affect the quality or taste of your cacao butter at all.
Our cacao butter is naturally free from common allergens. While it's processed in a facility that handles tree nuts, we maintain protocols to prevent cross-contamination. It's vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free.
Our cacao butter stands out through our commitment to:
- Single-origin sourcing from regenerative farms
- Traditional extraction methods that preserve nutrients
- Rigorous quality testing for purity
- Complete transparency in our supply chain
- Supporting small-scale farmer communities
